“I See You In My Dreams,” docu-film (work in process), directed by Candace Nina Reyes & Sabrina Herbosa

This body of work, including sculpture & painting, celebrates the Mother Figure (Mother Earth, Mother Waters), the source that evokes the divine. I imagine that the matriarchs in my lineage embody these powers, like my Lola rebelling against the Marcos dictatorship and my mother successfully migrating to new lands.

My Lola was a rebel, artist and member of the New People’s Army, who was in opposition to the Marcos dictarorship in the Philippines during the 1970s. Because of this, she was forced into hiding for most of my mother’s life and was left with no choice but to sacrifice being present as a mother. The docu-film, I See You In My Dreams, co-directed by my sister Candace Nina Reyes, shares archival audio from our mother about the memories and stories they both lived; in hiding in the jungle, being followed, the long journey’s my mother took to get to our Lola.
